Community Pet Policy

Alkaloid Networks Pet Policy

Our philosophy is simple: If another member wouldn’t know your pet is here unless they saw them, you’re probably doing it right.

At Alkaloid Networks, we believe work is better when people feel comfortable, connected, and at home. For many of us, that includes our pets.

Because we share this space with professionals from many different industries and backgrounds, bringing a pet to Alkaloid Networks is considered a privilege, not a right. Our goal is to create an environment where pet owners, animal lovers, and those who prefer a pet free workspace can all feel comfortable.

If your pet becomes a distraction to our community, we expect you to address the situation immediately. Our members are kind, respectful adults, and we trust everyone to approach these conversations with the same spirit.

Note: This policy applies to pets. Service animals, as defined by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), are addressed separately below.

General Requirements

All members bringing a pet into Alkaloid Networks must:

  • Have a current Pet Release and Liability Waiver on file.
  • Be fully responsible for their pet’s care, behavior, supervision, and cleanup at all times.
  • Immediately clean and sanitize any accidents that occur inside the building.
  • Properly dispose of all pet waste in outdoor trash receptacles.
  • Ensure their pet is healthy, clean, and free of parasites.
  • Immediately take their pet home if it becomes disruptive, anxious, aggressive, or ill.
  • Maintain a private office membership. Pets are only permitted for members with private offices.

Pets may never be left unattended in the building. If you leave the workspace, your pet leaves with you.

Private Office Expectations

Pets must remain inside their owner’s private office during the workday.

Office doors should remain closed or secured with an appropriate pet gate that prevents the pet from roaming into common areas.

Dogs may be walked through the building while entering and exiting the space and while going outdoors for bathroom breaks. They must remain on a leash anytime they are outside the office.

Cats must remain in an enclosed carrier whenever they are outside their office.

Health & Documentation

Before bringing a pet to Alkaloid Networks, members must provide:

  • Current vaccination records appropriate for the animal.
  • Current local licensing, if required by the member’s municipality.
  • Proof that the animal has been spayed or neutered.
  • For dogs, proof of completion of a basic obedience or puppy training program.
  • For dogs, proof of homeowner’s or renter’s insurance that includes dog bite coverage without breed exclusions.

Pets must have lived with their owner for at least 30 days before being approved.

Minimum ages:

  • Dogs: 9 months
  • Cats: 6 months

Behavior Expectations

Every pet approved for Alkaloid Networks must be:

  • Friendly toward people.
  • Non aggressive toward other animals.
  • House trained.
  • Calm enough to work alongside others.
  • Clean and well groomed.

Your pet should enhance the community, not become the center of attention.

Pets May Not

Pets may never:

  • Display aggressive behavior toward people or other animals.
  • Bark, howl, whine, or vocalize excessively.
  • Damage furniture, flooring, walls, or equipment.
  • Roam freely through the workspace.
  • Enter coworking areas unless entering or exiting the building.
  • Enter meeting rooms.
  • Enter the kitchen or any area where food is prepared or consumed.
  • Interfere with another member’s ability to work.

Cats

Cat owners are responsible for maintaining a clean litter box inside their office.

Litter boxes should be kept discreetly out of view whenever possible and cleaned daily to eliminate odors.

Our Community Comes First

Every member experiences the workspace differently. Some love greeting a friendly dog in the hallway. Others may have allergies, anxiety around animals, or simply need a quiet environment to focus.

Being a good pet owner at Alkaloid Networks means being attentive to both your pet and your neighbors.

If another member expresses concern, we ask that you respond with understanding and work together to resolve the issue quickly.

Pet Privileges

Alkaloid Networks reserves the right to suspend or revoke pet privileges at any time if a pet’s behavior negatively impacts the community or creates safety concerns.

Because repeated disruptions rarely begin with a single isolated incident, we may determine that a pet is simply not a good fit for the workspace, even after one significant event.

Our coworking community is designed for productive work, not behavioral training.

Special Pet Events

From time to time, Alkaloid Networks may host pet friendly community events such as adoption fundraisers, member pet introductions, or other special gatherings. These events operate under separate guidelines and are intended to bring our community together while supporting local animal organizations.

Service Animals

Alkaloid Networks welcomes service animals as defined by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

A service animal is a dog that has been individually trained to perform specific tasks for a person with a disability. Service animals are not considered pets and are not subject to the pet approval process or many of the requirements outlined in this Pet Policy.

Service animals must remain under the handler’s control at all times. In accordance with Georgia law and the ADA, a service animal should be harnessed, leashed, or tethered while in common areas unless the handler’s disability prevents the use of these devices or their use would interfere with the animal’s work. In those situations, the handler must maintain control of the service animal through voice commands, signals, or other effective means.

Handlers are responsible for:

  • Supervising and caring for their service animal at all times.
  • Cleaning up after their service animal.
  • Ensuring the animal does not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of others.
  • Ensuring the animal does not substantially disrupt the operation of the coworking community.

If a service animal is out of control and the handler does not take effective action to control it, or if the animal is not housebroken, Alkaloid Networks may require the animal to be removed from the premises, consistent with applicable law.
