Since we are in Mental Health Awareness Month, we continue our focus on how coworking can help alleviate loneliness.
The typical coworking space come with plenty perks and amenities. Recent findings have found that many members are joining spaces first and foremost for the socialization aspect. This makes sense given the increasing rise of gig economy-related loneliness.
In one study released by the Harvard Business Review, coworking members provided the following statistics:
- 87% reported that they joined a coworking space for social reasons
- 54% said they socialize with other coworking members after work or on weekends
- 79% said coworking spaces have expanded their social networks
- 83% said they feel less lonely since joining the space
- 89% said they feel happier since joining the space

Additionally, months into the pandemic, the loneliness that’s always been below the surface is even more extreme. It is critical to address loneliness and support relationship-building, even when we’re physically distant. Especially when we are physically distant.
