What are you working on right now?

Flare Therapeutics, a company that I co-founded with a small group of former colleagues at Constellation Pharmaceuticals (where I was CSO), is a precision oncology biotech currently in the clinic for muscle invasive bladder cancer and broadly targeting transcription factors; and Karuna Therapeutics, recently acquired by BMS, focused on novel therapies for psychological disorders.
Who is your ideal client?
I have a small client base for my consulting, primarily biotechs and pharma companies who benefit from my breadth of experience in small molecule drug discovery and development.
What is a common misconception about your industry?
Biotech and pharma is broadly misunderstood, although the industry is often its own worst enemy in this regard. The vast majority of my colleagues are motivated by their desire to solve important problems and to find treatments and to offer hope to patients who have neither. Our greatest motivation comes from the patients whose lives we have positively impacted.

What is a big picture for your business?
Being able to fully leverage my 30+ years of experience in drug discovery as broadly as possible to deliver treatments/cures to patients in need.
What is your superpower?
My superpower is my ability to think at the strategic level while still understanding the depth of technical detail necessary to realize these strategies.
What is your favorite productivity tool?
Not sure they are favorites, but I couldn’t live without Zoom and Slack, which allow me to live here in Atlanta and work seamlessly with companies and colleagues in Boston (or anywhere in the world).
What podcast should every entrepreneur (or everyone) listen to??
A bit of a shameless plug, but my kids loved that I was featured on an episode of ‘Lab Rats to Unicorns’, [a podcast that aims to demystify the process of creating a great company in the life sciences, medtech, and beyond] so I’ll recommend that one.

Why Alkaloid?
My initial choice of Alkaloid was based on location, which is perfect here on the Beltline, but after meeting Katharine, Maureen and everyone here, I can’t imagine going anywhere else.
What is your favorite perk at Alkaloid?
My favorite perk is the friendly team here at Alkaloid, but I also take full advantage of the coffee/tea as well. Finally, the great location which allows me to walk to and from work every day.
What advice would you give someone considering coworking?
Coworking is great; I love having an office to go to rather than just working from home, but also the informality of it and the sense of community.
Tell us one more thing about your experience at Alkaloid.
I feel at home at Alkaloid.
